MR.
ARKADIN Orson Welles stars as a millionaire recluse living in a castle in Spain. Declaring that he has amnesia, he hires an investigator to research his life and compile a confidential report with special emphasis on how he achieved his power and wealth. As the investigator delves deeper into Arkadin's sorrid past, he realizes that he is being used not to document the past but to obliterate it. One of Welles' best post "Citizen Cane" efforts. Actually, Arkadin is chillingly reminiscent of Cane and it foreshadows the Kafkaesque world of "The Trial". Directed by Orson Welles. Cast: Robert Arden, Paola Mori, Orson Welles, Michael Redgrave, Patricia Medina, Akim Tamiroff. Britain / Spain 1955,
100 minutes. |

Soon, he begins to believe that Harry Lime may be alive and well and plotting something most sinister. Great mystery drama. Of worthy note is the Academy Award winning cinematography by Robert Krasker and that sweet, memorable Zither music by Anton Karas. THE
TRIAL Haunting filming of Kafka's story. A man is arrested and accused of a crime which is not revealed to him. As he begins to search and question, he becomes convinced of his guilt--although he is still unsure of his crime! Welles' visually baroque version of the Franz Kafka novel expresses a nightmare vision of twentieth century bureaucracy. An exceptional nightmarish film of paranoia and hallucination. Directed by and Script; Orson Welles. Cast; Anthony Perkins, Romy Schneider Jeanne Moreau, Orson Welles and Akim Tamaroff. France 1962 118m Originally
shot in English.
