TERRA TREMA After his controversial Ossessione, Visconti began to plan a documentary trilogy with "La Terra Trema" as the first installment. The trilogy never materialized; Instead, Visconti brought forth this gritty docudrama which focused on a family of Sicilian fishermen who hopelessly battle the elements, an oppressive social system and their own fates to earn a living. Part of the film's dynamic electricity comes from the nonprofessional actors and the improvised story. “It is difficult to remain unmoved by this human document, shot entirely on location, despite some operatic notions on the part of the director and the beautiful camera compositions at odds with the harsh world depicted.” –Holts Foreign Film Guide Directed by Luchino Visconti. Script by Lucino Visconti. Photo by G.R. Aldo. Music by Luchino Visconti, Willy Ferrero. Narration by Lucino Visconti.
