VOL14- MAN RAY, DIRECTOR OF LUDICROUS MOVIES Man Ray is the quintessential modernist figure: photographer, painter, object maker and collagist, filmmaker and printmaker, poet, essayist and philosopher. Born in Brooklyn, New York, as Emanuel Radnitsky in 1890, he became a central figure in the American avant-garde movement and the most enigmatic of the Dada-Surrealists who transformed the Paris art world during the 1920's. This videotape compilation features three of his short experimental films. RETOUR
A LA RAISON - Ray's attempt to confuse and confound the participants
of the last great Dada convention was this film which was made without
a camera. (1923)

VOL 15 - LENNY BRUCE’S ALMOST END Following his New York conviction for obscenity, Lenny Bruce found himself bankrupt and unable to get bookings anywhere in the country other than San Francisco. This performance, recorded August 1965 at the Basin Street West Club, was the next to last performance he would ever give. Bruce does his routine, and illustrates how power hungry prosecutors and incompetent lawyers contributed to the injustices he suffered. As a consummate social commentator he offers his biting views of politics, religion, free speech and abuse of power. USA 1968 60m
